Copy / text
Copy is an easy one to get right but so many people don’t it’s crazy, all you need to do is provide the text in word file – this can be the traditional .doc or the new .docx formats. These are industry standard file types and your designers will have no issues opening it.
There are several free word processing programs around these days which work brilliantly but have their own file types – make sure you save these in the .doc format before you send them on as your designer may not be able to open them!the same is true for those using macs equivalent pages.
If you get stuck simply copy the text into an email as the designer should be able to copy and paste out of it
Now we have the format sorted what else is there to look out for? Here are some quick tips that will make your designers love working with you
Make it clear what the copy is for
If sending over multiple pages in a single document use headings to split it up
Adding notes to explain the copy is brilliant but please highlight it so it does not end up in the final product
If your making changes to copy for example spelling mistakes or new copy please make it clear which bits you have changed – the revision feature in word is ideal but you can also charged the colour of the text
Keep formatting to a minimum plain text is best with bold, italic and underline options.
As your designer if they want it all in one go or should you send it over as you write it – this will let them fill it in bit by bit or all in one go which ever they prefer
Proof read all of it before sending it over to prevent mistakes causing extra changes later on
Send over all copy well before the deadline as working late to meet a clients deadline when they are late with the copy is not fun!
Photos / images
Images can be a moe troublesome issue, they come in a wide range of types and formats and it can be confusing to work out which is best. The simplest answer is to send the largest image you have as your designer will be able to resize it on their end. This may mean sending a cd with all of the images
